WHAT TO KNOW
THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN SHOOTING YOUR NEXT EVENT OR PROJECT. HERE ARE A FEW TYPES OF COMMON PROJECTS WE WORK ON, AND WHAT TO EXPECT WITH EACH.
MUSIC VIDEOS
Music videos are a great way to gain exposure and expand your artist portfolio. With modern technology, you can make almost any creative concept come to life. Shooting and editing for a music video can vary greatly, depending on the quality of video, number of scenes, and effects desired for the end product. Here are a few examples of those options:
1. BASIC PERFORMANCE VIDEO
A standard performance video would consist of an artist or band, traditionally with 1-5 members, playing/singing along with the song for the duration of the video. For this kind of shoot, the artist(s) would have already recorded their final audio mix that they want to use for the video. This allows for video that is perfectly in sync with the song.
A very basic performance video will normally take 2-4 hours of shooting, and 2-4 hours of editing. This kind of video is great for bands of all levels, because it adds an honest visual element to your music, while showcasing each member with their respective role in the band.
2. CONCEPT MUSIC VIDEO
A concept video normally centers around a unifying idea, or theme. While the theme is commonly tied to the song's lyrical content, it can be based on anything the artist wants. Many times these videos are very abstract, allowing for the viewers to interpret the video's message independently. These videos allow for a great deal of creative freedom and artistic expression.
Concept videos can vary greatly in both shooting and editing time. Simple concepts can take 2-4 hours with shooting and editing together, while complex concepts can take 40+ hours.
3. NARRATIVE/STORY BASED VIDEOS
A narrative video is based on a story that the artist is trying to tell throughout the video. Traditionally, the plot falls in line with the lyrics of the song, but it can be unrelated. In these cases, the story arc would typically follow the feel of the music in the song. Many times these videos are shot in multiple locations, with a cast comprised of band members and/or hired talent. It is also common to have band performance scenes cut into the video as well.
Narrative videos are commonly the longest to shoot and edit. Shooting can run into multiple days, with additional travel time and cost. The day rates are recommended for any narrative videos.
